Interesting premise, but I just could not get through this book, which is saying something, because I will suffer though most things just for the sake of it. I love historical novels and I love sci-fi, but this did not do it for me. I know that it is YA, but there are a lot of YA books I really enjoy. The problem was that I never fully bought into either setting - the plantation - or Hyde Park. At the plantation, I felt there was little historical accuracy. I used to live in Hyde Park, and the descriptions of Hyde Park really did not do it justice and were more or less inaccurate. The plot transpires in a really boring way, there is no feeling of urgency or any feeling of suspense. Perhaps I am just too old and particular for this book.Product details

The Secret Life of Lula Darling Lula Darling Series Volume 1 Alex Dean 9780990528142 Books Reviews
The book moves fast, but there were so many opportunities that were missed, which could have colored it or make our seem more plausible. A slave girl enters a time machine after properly assembling it and then hits the button? Nah..
What new and innovative concept. Just so many tales that some things were left unsaid...but as I see we have two other books in the series so maybe reading n their would be more exposure of the sub tales. Still a great read, but I’m not ready to invest in book 2 and 3
This was a really good book until the middle when the author tuned it into science fiction. Like I've said before, if I get halfway through a book, I'm going to finish it regardless of whether I like it or not.
I really enjoyed this story and would love a series of books with Lula.Read it in 2 days and the pace of the book was perfect.
Young adult, science fiction, historical story of a young slave girl transported to the future. The description reminded me of another book I read with a similar story involving time travel between slavery times and the future. It was an interesting read, enjoyed the characters and how the eras and cultures interacted . I would have liked to known more about what was going on back in 1854 after Lula “disappeared” ....looking forward to the next book in the series to see what happened to Lula and her mother.
Generally enjoyed this book. Have always enjoyed York-based on the life in the old South. The special twist in this book ( not revealing it) made this story enjoyable. Recommend it for a quick read!
I enjoyed reading this book. I read it in a day which is something that I have not done in a number of years. The combining of two worlds and how the mother saw her daughter on tv by coincidence was brilliant. I only wish from time to time you could have addressed what was simultaneously going on at the plantation. Adding more dialogue of the slave owners keeping her disappearance a secret. I did not like the ending. I think the ending could have been after she went to be studied in Washington.
